THE UPBRINGING

Lee Chanyoung grew up in a peaceful Korean family that moved from Seoul to Boston even before he was born and he has a little brother five years younger than him. Chanyoung has always loved music, it was all because of his singer-songwriter father. Ever since he was a little boy, he often tried to listen to the sound of his father making music in the basement. His father mostly working in Korea so whenever he wasn't around, Chanyoung sneaked into the basement almost every day. The world of music seemed like a wonderful dream to him. Chanyoung was a shy and timid boy, so at the age of five, his parents signed him in swimming course to improve his mental and health. To everyone's surprise, he had a big potential to be a professional athlete. During his years of swimming, he joined a well-known swimmer group in New Jersey and won a few competitions.

Though he enjoyed swimming, never once did he forget about music. He learned how to play piano and cello even tried to compose a few songs. His parents were okay with that since all of his abilities could help him to get into a good university later on. After ten years, Chanyoung decided to quit swimming and wanted to pursue music seriously. The boy wanted to be like his father, and wanted to learn more about music. His parents were against it, he was so good at his swimming career and it was a shame to not continue. Took a lot of convincing and Chanyoung even working on his father's movie project to acquire his acknowledgement. His father eventually let him pursue his dream. He went to Korea right away and enrolled at Kyunghee University a few years later. He could easily do it in the US, but Chanyoung's role model is his dear father, thus it was only ideal to study from him.
